BIO

Santiago Iacinti (they/them/elle) is a bilingual Mexican-born gay femme nonbinary director and artistic leader. Most recently they made The Kilroy 2023 List. Their background is in new play development. Santi is the current Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education at PlayPenn, a national new play incubator that grew out of Philadelphia. Prior to PlayPenn, they were named an inaugural member of the Roundabout Directors Group, the 2018/19 directing resident at Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and the first Artistic Literary Apprentice at The Old Globe. Santiago has worked off-Broadway, and nationally at regional theatres including credits on over a dozen World/American Premieres. Their training includes the University of San Diego, Sarah Lawrence College, Directors Lab West, and the Meisner Chekhov Integrated Acting Studio.

Santi is a Dreamer and DACA recipient. They grew up undocumented and were the first person in their family to have access to higher education and the arts. Their entry point to theatre was through activism. Their journey with immigration has since been written about by the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation and featured in a commercial campaign by Lyft.

Their work is identity conscious and draws from the principle of Queer Futurity - the rejection of “what is” and insistence on manifesting new futures that afford self-actualization for the immigrant, queer, TGNC, and BIPOC communities that they come from.  Their work aims to move beyond prosceniums – through video art, movement, and technology – to shatter the separation between audience and performer and create a multisensory event that demands to be experienced live.
